In this hot weather, you probably want to equip your home with an air conditioner, but you don’t know which one to choose. Sextant France is therefore here to guide you in acquiring your air conditioning system. First of all, it is important to evaluate the type of air conditioner you need.
It should be noted that there are several types of air conditioners: the mobile units, the mono-splits or the multi-splits.
The mobile air conditioners are in a single unit, generally on wheels, and can be moved from one room to another without difficulty.
Disadvantages:
– Intended for temporary and occasional use for rooms of 10 to 20m².
– The air exhaust is through the window, which results in warm air entering.
– The air conditioner is fairly noisy.
– Performance is limited.
The mono-split air conditioners on the other hand are made up of one unit outside and one inside. They have high performance with a low noise level, the footprint is almost nil because the units are fixed to the wall and there are several models available, enabling it to blend into your room’s decoration.
Disadvantages:
– They must be installed by professionals.
– A hole needs to be made in the wall to connect the two units.
The multi-split air conditioners are similar to mono-splits with the exception that they benefit from several indoor units, which allows several rooms to be cooled at once.

In order to choose the right air conditioner, you must also take 2 other criteria into account: energy consumption and power.
It should not be forgotten that air conditioning consumes a lot of energy, so it is better to opt for more expensive but more environmentally friendly devices, which will allow you to make savings in the long term. In accordance with various European directives, air conditioners must be equipped with an energy label showing the energy efficiency of the device. This is evaluated in terms of classes rated from A to G. Class A is the most environmentally friendly but also the one with optimal performance.
To calculate the required power of your air conditioner, you simply need to multiply the volume in cubic metres of your room by 30 watts. For example, let’s take a room of 20m² with a ceiling height of 2.5 metres. The calculation gives us a total volume of 50m³, which we multiply by 30 watts. This gives us: 50m³ X 30 watts = 1500 watts. The power of your air conditioning should therefore be at least 1500 watts.
Regarding the installation of your air conditioning, it is best to call on a specialist. Indeed, the connection and commissioning of the refrigeration circuit must be carried out by a certified operator.
Finally, optimising the operation of your air conditioner also involves proper maintenance, which will also significantly extend the lifespan of the unit. On average, an energy consumption reduction of 25 to 30% is observed, compared to unmaintained equipment. The risk of breakdown is much lower and user comfort is significantly better.
