Why not go to the mountains this summer?

When it comes to choosing your summer holiday destination, it can become tedious to imagine yourself once again on a beach packed with tourists, whose noise is far from matching the tranquility you have been yearning for throughout the year. So why not consider the mountains? While they remain the quintessential winter destination for the French, in summer they offer just as many advantages that could make all the difference. This is all the more true given that France is a country rich in mountainous landscapes, accessible to everyone.

“The mountains have got you” in summer too!

Spending the summer in the mountains is an opportunity to rediscover your favourite ski resort adorned with vegetation and to observe wildlife emerging from its winter hideaway. The French territory benefits from a great variety of mountain relief, allowing everyone to enjoy landscapes classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Pyrenees or the Chaîne des Puys in the Massif Central. The various national parks, such as the Vanoise National Park in the Alps, are accessible to tourists and give them privileged access to exceptional natural wealth. Some might miss the sea when the mountain sun is scorching, but many hotels have swimming pools, and for the more adventurous, the melting ice gives rise to numerous bodies of water. Moreover, around fifteen swimming sites in the mountains in France can be cited! The position of our relief areas, straddling the borders, can also be an opportunity to visit neighbouring countries: Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Italy or Spain. The relative isolation of high-altitude resorts allows holidaymakers to escape the stress of everyday life, particularly thanks to a guaranteed change of scenery.

An ideal destination for everyone

The infrastructure put in place by the various resorts means that every profile can find themselves suited to this holiday. Sports enthusiasts will be offered a wide range of activities in each resort. The resort of Tignes in Haute-Savoie, for example, offers hiking, a bike park, acroland, paragliding, horse riding and even high-altitude skiing on glaciers! Activity in the mountains is not limited to sport; the various resorts have developed a wide range of entertainment, as in Divonne-les-Bains where you can attend theatre productions. Horse racing, exhibitions and festivals are also organised; the mountains are also a very popular wellness destination, thanks to its location allowing the development of thermal spa treatments. Like seaside resorts, those at altitude take into account the needs of families and provide numerous facilities for children. In the resort of Samoens, for example, there is a “Famille Plus” programme which aims to help families organise their holidays with their children, as well as crèches, paths for pushchairs… making life easier for parents for guaranteed peace of mind!
