The questions that really matter when purchasing property

Whether it’s your first purchase or the next, you certainly have many criteria on your checklist? Perhaps too many, in fact? This risks slowing down the acquisition process, and in the worst case, you could miss your dream home because of one criterion too many.

To simplify the selection process, there are a few key questions before investing. And you will need to answer them regardless of the term of your investment. These questions are for you, let’s get started.

1/ What matters most? The investment potential or the quality of the location?

One of the key questions before investing is the term of the acquisition. Generally, there are 2 categories: long term and short term. Often, the short-term acquisition is aimed at preparing the next one which will be longer term. It is the quality of the location that takes priority in these cases. But some buyers also like to highlight the possible capital gain on a property, it is a truly personal question.

2/ How much time do you want to spend on transport?

This is a key question, a journey between Chantilly and avenue de Clichy will take longer than between Chatou and La Défense. But the purchase price will also differ accordingly. Similarly, in the suburbs, do you prefer a 15-minute walk to the station or 15 minutes by car? Another question to consider, are there car-sharing stations nearby? Many residents use these nowadays, cheaper and more friendly than public transport.

3/ Are you really prepared to do the work yourself?

After a long day at the office and the return journey, will you really have the courage, the time, even the desire to pick up a paintbrush and repaint a wall in the bedroom. If you prefer to take a seat on the sofa with a TV series or head to the kitchen to cook a gourmet meal, then probably not. But weekends are also very suitable for DIY. Again, a matter of taste, only you can answer it.
