Relive Balzac’s moments on the island of beauty

Honoré de Balzac (1799 – 1850) is the origin of a large number of essential romantic works of French literature. Coming from a bourgeois family, Balzac was originally destined for a career as a notary but confessed to his parents in 1818 his desire to become a writer. This is how he became a novelist, playwright, literary critic, art critic, essayist and journalist. He also influenced writers of his time with his talent, such as Gustave Flaubert, Emile Zola and Marcel Proust. A prolific writer, he wrote 93 novels and short stories gathered under the title that you all know: La Comédie Humaine. That’s not all: Balzac is also the origin of Les Cent Contes drolatiques, other youthful novels published under pseudonyms, not to mention around thirty unfinished works…

Balzac wrote about Corsica “It is an unbearable stay. I know no one here and besides, there is no one. Civilization there is like Greenland… I am as if shipwrecked on a granite bank, going to see the sea, coming back to dinner, lunch, see the sea, go to bed, and start again… boredom reaches me here for the first time, there are no girls; Corsica is an intellectual desert, filled with quasi-savages”, to change his mind the next day and state that “Corsica is one of the most beautiful countries in the world…”.
And indeed, it is not without reason that Corsica is today nicknamed the Island of Beauties. It offers magnificent landscapes combining sea and mountain. Corsica is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean for its beauty and climate. Bastia, capital of Upper Corsica and city where the exceptional apartment is located, is a magnificent and culturally very rich city thanks to its historical quarters, picturesque like the citadel, its Genoese churches, and the rich collections of its museums and festivals encourage wandering.
