Father's Day: still no gift?

Next Sunday, we celebrate Dads’ Day. For a long time held on 19th March, St Joseph’s Day (in reference to the father of Christ), the non-religious Father’s Day we know today appeared in 1912 in the United States. It now takes place on the third Sunday in June.

The question that haunts minds as this day approaches is of course: which gift will give him the most pleasure? The best gift idea that comes to mind is a bottle of wine. Indeed, even though we know the bottle won’t last, we also know it is a personal gift. A Bouches du Rhône, a South West or Languedoc Roussillon wine, every taste can find satisfaction!

• Bouches du Rhône, produced in the south of France, can be served with red meat, cheese or simply as an aperitif. Perfect for dads who like to prepare barbecues during the summer.

• South West white wines, which differ depending on whether they are dry or sweet, rather accompany typical culinary specialties of the region. Dry white wines will go very well served with fish (trout, pike-perch, crayfish…). However, sweet white wines such as Sauternes (in the Bordeaux region) are consumed rather as aperitifs or with foie gras. The ideal gift for dads who love preparing family meals.

• As for Languedoc wines, still in the summer period, they pair with red meat, salads, aperitifs and tapas, not forgetting cheese and fruits. Regional specialties are therefore welcome. They would suit Sunday gardening dads.

Perhaps one of these regions appeals to you more, or a sunny getaway with your father gives you even more gift ideas.
