The César Awards

The César Awards are a film awards ceremony for French films organised by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques, otherwise known as the Academy of César. Made up of 4,700 members, they will distinguish through their votes the most remarkable films, actors, directors, technicians, etc. of the year. It takes place in Paris in February.
The trophy, called a César, is a small metal compression statuette created by a sculptor called César. It is presented to the winners. It was specially requested by the sculptor’s friend, Georges Cravenne, the initiator of the creation of the Academy of César.
The idea is partly inspired by the American ceremony created in 1927, and Georges Cravenne dreamed of creating a similar ceremony in Europe. The idea for the César Awards was therefore created (the similarity between the two trophy names is noted, as well as the fact that they have the same number of letters!).
