Energy transition: which new heating method should you choose?

A study published in 2015 by Coénove presents a ranking of the most competitive energy renovation solutions for heating.

Coénove is an association created in 2014 that brings together key players in the gas sector in France. It is particularly committed to the success of the energy transition and to achieving national environmental objectives.

.
The energy transition has very recently become a major international issue that is the subject of important consultations between nations. In December last year, 195 countries met in Paris at an international conference on climate (COP21) with the objective of limiting global warming. The entire world is investing to guarantee the future of the planet and to ensure good living conditions for future generations.

.
These new resolutions notably involve a profound change in our heating systems. The Coénove association has set itself the task of informing French citizens about the energy transition and the new ecological heating methods they can install. Indeed, this transition is too slow because consumers are not sufficiently informed on the subject, so it is necessary to present them with the different solutions they can implement and show them that it could also be beneficial for them financially. In order to compare these different solutions, the association’s members analysed the cost of each installation, maintenance interventions and the price of energy consumed over 15 years.

.
According to Coénove, the solutions that appear most profitable are gas energy and the high-performance condensing boiler with a cost of 1500 euros/year over 15 years. Regarding renewable energies, the most competitive method is the addition of a boiler and a solar thermal water heater with a cost of 1800 euros/year. Conversely, the most expensive solutions are those requiring the installation of low-temperature radiators. Similarly, new technologies such as micro-cogeneration (a system with low thermal power adapted to the heating and hot water needs of a single building) are also very expensive for private individuals.

.
The French association Coénove states that modifying heating systems combined with good thermal insulation would be the best way to reduce our environmental impact.
