The principle
The zero-interest loan facilitates home ownership through the State covering the difference between 0% and the rates normally applied. It is a supplementary loan that is added to a main loan.
Who is eligible?
There are 4 main eligibility criteria:
– This loan only applies to people wishing to become homeowners for the first time.
– It can only be taken out for purchasing a primary residence
– The property must be new
– The property must meet a certain energy performance level
Criteria for calculating the grant amount
The grant amount depends on:
– income
– the location of the property
– the number of people in the household (the further the property is from major cities, the higher the grant increases)
What changed since October 2014
The zero-interest loan will also cover both newbuild properties and older properties requiring renovation work.
The main objectives of this measure
– Increase the number of zero-interest loans from 44,000 to 80,000
– Facilitate home ownership for modest incomes
– The energy renovation of properties in rural areas
