This 13th September, several thousand thirsty runners will set off for the 29th edition of the Marathon du Médoc.
This legendary and demanding 42-kilometre race has a very original particularity. Indeed, participants will be able to quench their thirst at some 20 red wine tastings from local châteaux.
The race route passes through 55 wine estates, including names known throughout France and the world: Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Mouton-Rothschild… Competitors will be able to taste the crus from all the surrounding estates while enjoying the views of the vineyards and the Gironde that line the race route.
In addition to the cru tasting stops and traditional refreshment stands, competitors will enjoy a delicious meal during the final kilometres of the race. First the oysters after the 38th km, then a steak, cheese and ice cream for the start of the final kilometre.
The final element that helps make this marathon unmissable is that all participants will be dressed according to this year’s theme: “Countries of the World and their Carnivals”. The costumes are set to be festive and colourful!
The race organisers are expecting nearly 9,000 competitors from all over the world. Last year’s edition brought together nearly 54 nationalities including 700 Britons! And if you are in the Landes at the beginning of September, why not go and encourage the brave competitors in the race? After all, the competition looks set to be fierce and the runners will certainly need support to finish this gastronomic loop!
See you on 14th September in Pauillac!
