Moving can be stressful and costly, especially when relocating to a different region. This need not be inevitable. Here are our tips for moving without breaking the bank!
- Planning your move
A move cannot be arranged on the spot and cannot be done at the last minute. It requires organisation and this organisation will have an impact on your final budget. Take a detailed inventory of the furniture that will be moved, set aside time to sell the rest, contact removal companies in advance to obtain several quotes and choose the most competitive, visit local shops to collect boxes rather than buying them, etc.
- Choosing the right time for your move
Certain times of year are in higher demand, and you will pay more to move from mid-June to mid-September, during weekends and school holidays. Opt for the quiet periods in removal companies’ schedules, when prices are 30 to 40% lower.
- Taking advantage of moving assistance
Assistance is available depending on whether you meet certain criteria. If this is the case, these aids can considerably reduce your costs. What are they? Firstly, the CAF moving grant for large families, the residence change expense allowance for civil servants and non-permanent staff in the public sector, or assistance provided by the Departmental Council for people in precarious situations. Emmaüs also offers a move for under €400 in certain regions. So find out about the assistance available to you before throwing yourself into your move head first.
Often a testing period, it is nevertheless not inevitable to spend a fortune on your move. With some sacrifices and good organisation, you will therefore move without breaking the bank!
