Connected objects, a windfall for your energy bill

Impossible to escape the web’s new darling! “Internet Of Things” or IoT for the more savvy among you. What’s that? Tools connected to the internet that can help you manage your environment optimally. Either by programming it, or remotely using your smartphone and dedicated apps. According to experts, this is the new revolution on the web. After the Internet, Web 2.0, we are now talking about the IoT 3.0 wave. Geeks are thrilled, but for you, it is a windfall for managing your energy consumption, be it gas, electricity and even water! We have therefore put together a list of 5 essential objects for you. And with Christmas coming up, we have even added a little surprise to help everyone reduce their energy bill.

1 – Heating

The thermostat is certainly the most popular connected object, so we had a tough time choosing. Since we were unable to try them all, it is the French manufacturer NetAtmo who gets our seal of approval! With a design by Philippe Starck no less. But let us get back to the stats as they matter most for your wallet! Their thermostat allows you to save up to 37% on your bill – on average and according to studies carried out with their users. That is huge, our IoT heartthrob for energy savings! French pride!

2 – Lighting

Tough choice here too with so many providers! We were able to test Philips’ Hue, their bulbs can be programmed remotely or according to specific schedules. But it was the Flux bulb that received the most votes at Sextant France. Indeed, it works via Bluetooth and it is really practical. The website is not in French, sorry!

3 – Water

Americans are pioneers in this area and EvaDrop really appealed to us even if it is not available yet! The unit installs in your shower and allows you to manage flow rate as well as temperature, savings of around 50% according to manufacturers! Worth a look if you take a lot of showers!

4 – Coffee

After water of course, we could not resist! Our teams in London and Paris have their preferences. But what about the remote-controlled coffee maker thanks to IoT? Saving time often means saving energy, just programme it and there you go! Ikawa is a London start-up and since Sextant France started there we were eager to meet our neighbours. They launched the home roasting machine – the revival of the black gold!

5 – Energy Box

You know the internet box, here is the Energy Box! All connected objects in one, this is set to make a splash because you will be able to control everything, be it the heating, the washing machine, the dishwasher, and more, in this area, a leader in the French industry has taken the lead: Schneider Electric with Wiser.

Bonus – Bixi
