66% of French people who signed a mortgage have tried to negotiate the borrowing rate or are considering doing so…
The study highlights that 63% of men are in this case, and 82% of people aged over 65. Among mortgage borrowers, around 55% have already finished repaying it, that is slightly over one-third of French people.
That said, 66% of them “have already sought to negotiate the rate of their borrowing or are considering doing so”.
Among the 51% who have already wanted to renegotiate, 30% obtained the rate reduction they hoped for, while 12% received less than they were expecting and 9% faced a refusal. Young people and managers are more inclined to seek to renegotiate their mortgage.
Borrowers who do not wish to renegotiate their mortgage (one-third of those surveyed) are more numerous among those over 65 (50%) and among those who have already repaid their borrowing (43%). Among those who do not want to renegotiate, 22% consider it too complicated, while 10% think it “will result in a refusal”.
