Father’s Day: Still haven’t bought Dad a present?

Next Sunday, in the UK as well as in France, we celebrate the Father’s Day. For a long time, it used to be celebrated on the 19th of March, on the Joseph’s day, as a reference of the Christ’s father. The Father’s Day without any religious connotation has been created in the USA in 1912. It has been fixed on the 3rd Sunday of June.

Obviously, everyone is wondering what kind of present his father would like to get on this special day. The best idea that came to my mind is a bottle of wine. Indeed, even if we know that the bottle will not last long, we can consider that it’s a personal present. What about a French wine? Bouches du Rhone, South West and Languedoc Roussillon regions may satisfy many tastes.

• The wine from Bouches du Rhone, produced in the South of France, can be served for red meats, cheese or as an aperitif. It could be perfect for dads who like to cook barbecues in the summer.

• Wines from South West of France can be divided into 2 categories: on the one hand the dry ones and on the other hand the very sweet ones. Both of them can be drunk with local gastronomy. The dry wines would be perfect to drink with fish and seafood: trout, perch pike, crayfish… However, the sweet ones would be better drunk with foie gras or as an aperitif. I am thinking about the Sauternes (from Bordeaux region) for instance. This is an ideal present for dads who like to prepare family meals.

• About Languedoc Roussillon wines, still during the summer, they are compatible with red meats, salads, cheese as well as fruits. Regional specialities are welcomed. It would be just right for dads who garden on Sundays.

Maybe you are interested in one of those regions, or maybe a trip to a sun place with your father could give you other ideas for his present.
