The “Ville rose” (Pink city) is appealing to you and you are planning a weekend out there? First of all, know that historically this nickname given to Toulouse derives from the arrival of the Romans in this area and the construction of houses, mostly in Roman bricks and tiles. The light from the sunset gives the entire city a mystical glow that is worth your ride. Discover now what it’s going to be fun to see and explore this town with an incredibly rich past.

La place du capitole

The center of tourism in Toulouse, that’s the spot to not miss. Occupied by this magnificent structure – the Capitol – where since the Middle Ages the municipal council has been seated, the square demands reverence for its 11,500 m².

L’espace Bazacle

A unique cultural site, L’espace Bazacle is a geological and historic site situated on the banks of the Garonne, in a former hydroelectric station. The exhibits are sometimes decorative and occasionally history and you will also be able to enjoy the Saint-Pierre Bridge from a panoramic terrace.

La Basilique Saint-Sernin

Initially constructed to house the relics of Toulouse’s first bishop Saint-Saturnin, the basilica provides impressive dimensions, such as its 115-meter-long nave – equivalent to a football field. It is the most visited spot in the region, as well as one of Europe’s largest Romanesque churches.

Le Musée des augustins

Created after the French Revolution, it is the Museum of Fine Arts in Toulouse and one of France’s first museums, having arisen just after the Louvre. Paintings and sculptures find their place, not to be overlooked, in the context of this former convent with imposing rooms!

La rue du Taur

Rue du Taur connects Place du Capitole to Saint-Sernin and is one of the busiest in the region. This is bordered by several shops, such as bookstores and small restaurants, while in the past it was a place of passage for pilgrims coming to meditate on Saint Saturnin’s tomb.

Le couvent des Jacobins

It is composed of a cathedral, a cloister, a chapter house, and the chapel of Saint Antonin. A masterpiece of Southern Gothic architecture, since its establishment by the Dominican Order in the 13th century, it has provided a haven of rest and coolness in the summer.

The banks of the Garonne

A stroll along a river is always relaxing and in Toulouse, you’ll never want to miss the Garonne. Take the opportunity to walk along the meadow of filters that runs through it and give a stunning view of a large number of monuments in Toulouse.

Le MATOU

Among other graphic works, The Toulouse Poster Museum, or MATOU, offers to enjoy as many as 20,000 promotional posters. There are temporary exhibits, two or three times a year, as well as a variety of activities.

La cité de l’espace

Despite its participation in aerospace technology Toulouse will not be Toulouse. La cité de l’espace offers a very rich museum, animations and screenings that allow you to immerse yourself in the important historical projects and you can even climb at an old Mir station!

Toulouse Street Art

Eventually, you’ll certainly have seen several murals spread across the city during your wanderings. If you are interested in the subject, visit the Cobalt site, a former industrial wasteland that has since 2015 been transformed into an exhibition space and workshops for artists.

Toulouse offers unique riches of its nature which will not be enough to explore entirely for two or three days. Some of them were not listed here, but for the end we’ll leave you a little hint: you can try a certain number of them in the city’s restaurants! Have a great weekend!
