Sextant on the lookout for technological innovations with “The Drone”

The Web 2.0 is an expression which refers to the Web evolution towards the simplicity and information access for everyone. Social networks and knowledge sharing are the main features of this new generation which has appearedten years ago. At the same time “Marketing 2.0” has been expanding as well, it refers toa communication and a promotion system which includes the use of Internet with the aim of winning loyalty of the company’s internet users. On the other hand, the former version used to deal just with classic media as known as radio, newspapers, television etc…The “2.0” clearly illustrates a time-related evolution towards the technological world.

With the same general idea Sextant decided to launch the “Real Estate 3.0”: a new generation of French estate agents on the look-out of new technologies. Indeed, it is important to offer a real property with a beautiful presentation as it distinguishes the property from competitors and it is also a tool to speed up the sale.

The Drone is a controllable device supplied with a camera which can take pictures and videos while remaining very stable in the air. Moreover, it is supplied with a Satnav – GPS in order to be oriented in better directions. Every picture is directly forwarded to the “pilot” with the use of a Smartphone for example.

Used with a good camera (or with a GoPro camera to get a better quality) the drone is one of the best instruments to take pictures of Prestige villas and castles in order to highlight the charm of the beautiful architecture.

First of all, photos taken from a drone camera offer a larger viewcontrary to those taken from the ground. For instance, for a castle capture we could use this kind of tool in order to enlarge the view as it would show the extension of the property.

When we are on the ground, we can have two points of view:

–          We can step back from the property to get a general view; however, the architectural details would not be very precise

–          Or we can come closer to the property in order to get precise details; on the other hand we wouldn’t have a general view

The drone camera gives the possibility to highlight the land extension, the imposing feature of the property and the architectural details at the same time.

An aerial view is always an advantage for large villas or castles, using the drone camera inside this kind of property would be very useful as ceilings are usually very high.

Moreover, in comparison with pictures taken from a plane, the main advantages of the drone camera are:

–          More precise picture capture

–          Possibility of retouching photos

–          The price: cheaper than pictures taken from plane

–          Less rules: possibility of flying in low altitude (from 0 to 150m)

The drone camera enables a good compromise between being on the ground or in the air.

The development of this controllable tool is already used for some experimental research such as geology or archaeology but it can be used as a promotional instrument in Real Estate Industry. Indeed, after the use of Photo 360 which gives a real dimension to the property, Sextant could be distinguished from other agencies with the drone camera acquisition. Sextant could differentiate itself, proposing to the sellers the use of a drone camera in the context of an exclusive mandate for instance.

This investment is a way to add value to the proposed service in the aim ofoffering something different from the competitors. Also, sellers would remind the use of this original small device before it would have been democratised.

Since Mai 2012 the use of the drone camera has been regulated in France. The latter is one of the first countries to have allowed the drone camera to fly which has enabled its development. Even if the legislation is still quite strict for the moment, it will evolve in the future.

The price of this instrument can reach £700, a correct price when we consider the added value it generate to all users.
