Mougins is a commune in the department of Alpes-Maritimes which is in the Provence Cote d’Azur region which is in the south of France. It benefits from its proximity to Cannes which is only 10 minutes away and has hosted some of the most well-known people in history including Edith Piaf, Christian Dior and Winston Churchill. Perhaps most famously, Pablo Picasso lived in Mougins for the last 12 years of his life.
Nice Cote d’Azur airport, which provides low-cost flights to the UK on a daily basis, is only 30 minutes from Mougins by car and there is also the Gare de Nice which provides national train travel.
Mougins has a rich cultural heritage that extends all the way back to the start of the last millennium. The parish church of “Saint Jacques le Majeur” dates back to the 11th century and retains all of its old charm despite extension and refurbishment in the 17th and 18th centuries.
There is the chapel of Notre Dame de Vie which has stood since the 12th century which was actually re-built in part during the 17th century and also the chapel of Saint Barthelemy which is of particular interest as it is a rarity to find a religious structure in an octagonal shape, as this chapel is.
There is much culture to admire in Mougins, with the Espace Culturel providing an array of high quality artworks.
