Meyssac

Meyssac is a village and commune in the Corrèze département of Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The town of Meyssac centres on its Church, and other architectural treasures surround it; dotted around in its little streets. Until 1738 the fortified town of Meyssac belonged to the Viscount of Turenne. The fortifications and the moat were built to protect its inhabitants from looters. In the 18th Century, these fortifications became nothing more than useless ruins and were destroyed. They were replaced by a large boulevard which later became a sort of ‘ring-road’. Beautiful houses with gothic interiors and red stone exteriors remain in between this new construction and the old town. There are lots of sites to visit, including the Church of Saint Vincent, and various markets. Local leisure activities include horse-riding, kayaking, fishing, tennis, hiking, and many more. Meyssac is located just 1 hour from Perigueux airport with daily low cost flights to the UK.

Activities

There is a market on every Tuesday and Friday morning where you can buy local produce, and there are various fairs to visit. The Eglise Saint Roch and Saint Vincent are must-see sites in the town. For nearby leisure activities you will find a horse-riding club, golf club, tennis courts, many points of water for fishing, kayaking, speleology, and lots of courses and areas for hiking and exploring. Meyssac and Collonges share the local facilities of the camp-site and the swimming pool.
