Property prices in Rhone-Alpes

As with the Provence-Alpes-Cote-d’Azur region, property prices in Rhone-Alpes vary wildly. Broadly speaking, the inland Rhone area offers cheaper properties than the admittedly more expensive Alpine ski resorts – however, the price of the latter is offset by their proximity with the mountains, good transport links, enduring popularity and well-developed tourism industry.

Rhone-Alpes consists of eight departments:
Ain: Bourg-en-Bresse, Belley, Gex, Nantua
Ardeche: Tour-sur-Rhone, Privas
Drome: Montelimar, Valence
Haute-Savoie: Annecy, Chamonix, Megeve
Isere: Grenoble
Loire: Saint-Etienne
Rhone: Lyon
Savoie: Aix-les-Bains, Chambery, Courchevel

Ardeche is the cheapest department – prices here average around €150,000. This compares to an average of €341,000 in Haute-Savoie, Rhone-Alpes’ most expensive department by far.

It is this enduring popularity, however, that makes property in this area a fairly safe investment, and, for those looking for better value for money, there are much cheaper properties that are still conveniently situated for the slopes to be found in less traditionally popular areas.
