Paris 6th district is located at the very heart of the city, on the north bank of the river Seine. It is divided into four main quartiers (areas):

Famous places
Take the time to wander the small streets of the district, discover its small shops and lively atmosphere. The sixth arrondissement offers several interesting places to visit including:
- The Institut de France, a French society managing five academies, the most famous one being the Académie Francaise.
- The Palais du Luxembourg, headquarters of the French senate (upper house of the French parliament).
- The jardin du Luxembourg, a splendid private garden open to the public.
- The théâtre de l’Odéon, one of France’s six national theatres, created to house the famous drama group the “Comédie Francaise”,
- The hôtel des Monnaies, housing the “Monnaie de Paris”, which issues coins and produces medals and other items. Many ancient coins are kept there, in the coin museum.
- The couvent des Cordeliers, a convent where meetings were organized during the French Revolution.
- The Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris.
- The Passerelle des Arts, a bridge linking the Institut de France and the central square of the Palais du Louvre.
Also worth noting is the abundance of cultural events which take place in the sixth arrondissement. The district has twenty cinemas, four main libraries, eleven museums, five theatres, as well as countless art galleries and bookshops. There are also several churches, such as Saint-Germain-des-Prés (the oldest church in Paris, founded in the year 542), Saint-Sulpice, Saint-Joseph-des-Carmes, and Notre-Dame-des-Champs.
If you are in the mood for shopping, the “Citypharma” offers cosmetics from famous French brands, such as Vichy, or La Roche, for a reduced price. You should also try the hot chocolate at the upscale chocolate boutique “Cacao et Chocolat”.
Cafés & Restaurants
- Bistro Le Polidor: In existence since 1845, but don’t let that fool you, the carte is quite up-to-date. Vegetarians can choose from various fine pastas- à la carte.
- Café de Flore: This café is famous for being the coffee and smoking venue of choice for the Surrealists during the 1920s and ’30s, the Existentialists in the 1940s and ’50s, and still attracts an artistic / literati crowd to this day…. Also does breakfasts and light meals.
- Café Les Deux Magots: Another famous literary café, right next door to its great rival Café de Flore. Sartre and Hemingway were regular patrons here and the café confirms its literary connections with an annual, somewhat prestigious book prize.
- Brasserie Lipp: A Parisian institution since 1880, the beautiful art deco interior complements the famous Alsatian menu and beer.
- Hélène Darroze: a gourmet restaurant with two Michelin stars .The food is inspired by the eponymous Chef’s roots, the Landes region, in South-West of France.

According to the website Notaires de France, the average price per square meter was €12,650 for the third quarter of 2011. It is currently the most expensive district in Paris.

There were 44,322 inhabitants in the district in 2008.

By air: Easyjet flies from Belfast, Liverpool Newcastle and London Luton to Paris.
Ryanair flies from Shannon, Dublin and Glasgow to Paris.
By rail: Eurostar go from London to Paris in just 2h35.
By car: You can travel by car to Paris by taking the ferries which go from Dover to Calais and then you can take the Motorway to Paris.
You can also cross the channel with the Eurostar and stop at Calais. Then you will travel on the motorway directly to Paris.
