The 18th district of Paris is divided into four areas:
- Quartier des Grandes-Carrières (Extreme West)
- Quartier de Clignancourt (West)
- Quartier de la Goutte-d’Or (East)
- Quartier de la Chapelle (Extreme East)
Famous places
- The place du Tertre is situated at 130m of altitude and is a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the meeting point of modern art. Today, the place welcomes artists and their easels every day, to the great pleasure of tourists who come here to admire them while they paint portraits and landscapes.
- The Moulin Rouge, at least as famous as the Eiffel Tower, is a cabaret, a music hall built in 1889, in a style that is now copied by cabarets round the world. It is located on the place Pigalle. On the butte Montmartre, the Lapin Agile is another cabaret where bohemian artists would meet at the beginning of the 20th century
- The basilique du Sacré-Cœur is a major religious building standing upon the Butte Montmartre. This romano byzantine-style building is one of Paris’s most famous landmarks. The interior is brilliantly decorated with mosaics, and the crypt contains what some of the devout believe is Christ’s sacred heart. Thanks to its location, the place also offers a great view over Paris.
- The espace Dali, close to the famous place du Tertre, houses unique artworks from Salvador Dali, especially sculptures and engravings. This is currently the most important collection of Dali sculptures, which represent a significant part of his art. The collection also displays 3D images of the artist’s works.
- The Clignancourt Flea Market is a sprawling bazaar made up of both permanent stalls and temporary stands (over 2,000 of them!), arranged in winding, sometimes chaotic arcades, over 10 miles of walkways, and over ten differently-themed sub-markets. Everything from fine antiques through to collectible kitsch and bric-a-brac.
- As well as these monuments and museums, there are also three famous cemeteries, where numerous celebrities were buried: cimetière Saint-Vincent, cimetière du Calvaire and cimetière de Montmartre. There are also sixteen theatres and two cinemas in the district.
Restaurants and cafes
- La Petaudiere, rue Poulbot. Piano bar on rue Poulbot – tasty food, nice ambience and excellent piano music (prepare some coins for the pianist).
- Doudingue , a tiny restaurant decorated in warm tones with does generous brunches, excellent croissants, and has nice staff. The bar is also worth a visit due to the large range of cocktails on offer.
- Le Moulin de la Galette, one of the jewels of the Butte Montmartre, a favourite of all who walk through its doors. A trendy bistro very much worth the trip. The dining room is a sophisticated, relaxed symphony of scarlet and black with modern lines. The menu tends toward a simpler aesthetic and uses excellent ingredients in dishes.
Property price per sqm in the 18th arrondissement of Paris
According to the website Notaires de France, the average price per square meter was €8,510 for the third quarter of 2011. It is currently the thirteenth most expensive district of Paris, after the 9th arrondissement.

There were 196 000 inhabitants in the district in 2008.

By rail: Eurostar go from London to Paris in just 2h35.
By car: You can travel by car to Paris by taking the ferries which go from Dover to Calais and then you can take the Motorway to Paris.
You can also cross the channel with the Eurostar and stop at Calais. Then you will travel on the motorway directly to Paris.
