Villeneuve sur Lot

Villeneuve-sur-Lot is a 13th century city located in the Lot-et-Garonne (47), in Southern France. It owes its charms to the Lot River running across the city. The ancient bastide is only 30 mins from the lovely towns of Bergerac and Agen. What is substantial in Villeneuve is that it has escaped the excesses of tourism that have impacted other bastide towns.

Activities

There are some interesting features to discover in the town. The centre is found between two old gateways – the Porte de Paris and the Porte de Pujols and is now largely given over to shops, making a pleasant place to explore. There is also the original town square to rest in.
There are as well quite a lot of medieval pearls to discover in Villeneuve, hidden among the modern additions! The 13th century bridge has lost its original towers but still provides attractive views along the river. From here you could walk (or drive) to the nearby hilltop town of Pujols, itself a very beautiful little village, to enjoy fine views over the valley.
As for sports activities, the city has an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool, but also several sports fields, stadiums, sports halls, a water base and a natural parc called Lascrozes, pleasing everyone from sports biginners to professionals. Its sports clubs and centres offer activities ranging from water skiing, canoeing, to horse riding, mountain biking, fencing, etc.

Market day are Tuesday and Saturday. The city organises different events all year long.
