Eymet

Eymet is situated on the river Dropt, in the southern part of the Perigord and the western region of the “Bastide Country”. It is a village of Dordogne department, in Nouvelle Aquitaine region. What makes Eymet unique is the way it combines all the amenities of the modern world with the charms of the past. The area offers a variety of things for nature lovers, lovers of fine wine and food and those who want to soak in the atmosphere of the old buildings and history. Local leisure activities range from cycling to water sports, from rambling to sight-seeing. Why not take a stroll and discover the rich heritage of the town? There is an excellent market which takes place once a week, with lots of local produce and in the summer there is also a lively night market on Tuesdays. The regional cuisine comprises hearty dishes which are created using the finest ingredients involving duck, goose, walnuts, truffles and prunes. The nearest train station is Bergerac (20km) and there is also a local airport ‘Bergerac-Roumaniere International’ (21km) with low cost flights to the UK.

Access

There is a local airport ‘Bergerac-Roumaniere International’ which is served by many of the low cost airlines from a number of UK cities. The nearest train station is in Bergerac (just 20 minutes away) which has good links to Paris and larger surrounding cities.

Activities
There is a whole range of activities to keep you busy during your time in Eymet, from cycling to playing golf on the local courses and taking day trips to nearby water parks and aquariums. It is considered to be a great place for water sports, being a particularly super place for anglers, with fishing permits available from Angling stores and a number of other places such as Tourist Offices and Tabacs. Canoe hire is available at the Mill in Eymet where you can hire a canoe for an exceptionally good rate of 7 euros/hr. There are some stunning castles such as the Château de Lanquais and Château de Duras which are a must see; both of which are within 30 minutes from Eymet. Look out for local markets too which have a different location depending on the day of the week. In the summer there is also a lively night market on Tuesdays.

Food and drink

One of the main reasons that people love France is the cuisine, and here in the Dordogne (generally referred to as The Perigord) is one of France’s top gastronomic regions. Foie Gras is a speciality of the region, with its rich buttery taste; it is best eaten with toast or a slab of bread, and a glass of chilled sweet Monbazillac. Hearty dishes are created using the finest ingredients involving duck, goose, walnuts, truffles and prunes.
