Etang-sur-Arroux is a village of Saone et Loire department, in Burgundy region. It is part of the Beuvray Val d’Arroux which groups together 7 villages of Arroux area: Etang sur Arroux, La Comelle, Saint Prix, Saint Didier sur Arroux, Saint Leger sous Beuvray and Thil sur Arroux. The soil of Arroux area is not suitable for cultivation; therefore, it was converted into hedged farmland mostly for the breeding of the famous beef Charolais.

The 11th century church of Etang sur Arroux was replaced in the middle of the 20th century by the current neo gothic style building. During the 12th century, the village was under the control of a family named “les d’Estang”.
