Les Gets is a ski resort in the French Alps situated at an altitude of around 1200m (highest point at 2002m). The winter season in Les Gets runs from mid-December to mid-April although the area is popular year-round with the wide range of activities on offer over the spring/summer months. Les Gets is predominantly a family resort.

Access

Les Gets is in the Haute-Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-east France. The nearest international airport to the resort is Geneva which is approximately 90 minutes away by car (55km). Geneva airport is serviced by a number of low-cost airlines such as easyjet and fly2. Alternatively, those wishing to travel to Les Gets may take the TGV to Cluses station which is just over half an hour from the resort (22km). The Altibus service provides transfers from both Geneva airport and Cluses station to the resort. Taxis are also available.

Activities

For those who like to ski, this resort offers some of the densest skiing in the area with 66 alpine ski runs (3 green, 26 blue, 28 red and 9 black runs) covering a total of 110 km and a further 12 km of nordic ski runs. And if that isn’t quite enough, Les Gets is one of the 12 resorts making up the ‘Portes du Soleil’ giving skiers access to a total of 650 km of piste over an area of 400 square miles spanning the French-Swiss border. For children there is the choice of a number of excellent ski schools. For non-skiers, this resort still has plenty to offer with snow shoe walking, ice skating, dog sledding, snow mobiles and air activities such as hot air ballooning and paragliding. Après-ski activities include ice skating, bowling, bridge and cinema. Within the village there are beauty salons and wellness centres offering a range of treatments. There are also a number of bars in the village and one night club. Over the summer, activities on offer include mountain biking, golf, swimming, high wire assault courses, climbing, horse riding, caving, fishing, quad biking, tennis, water sports and more. For those in search of a little culture, numerous festivals take place during the year such as the Snow Carnival in february and the Les Gets Mechanical Music Festival which takes place in July. There are also a number of museums and exhibitions.

Food and Drink

Potatoes, local cheeses and regional sausages feature heavily in typical Savoyard cuisine. Traditional dishes include Tartiflette (a gratin of potato, cheese and onions), crozets (a type of rustic pasta used to make gratins with cheese) and fondue, all of which can be experienced in Les Gets.

Restaurants

There is a good selection of restaurants in Les Gets, ranging from typical Savoyard food to pizzerias to gourmet cuisine, with many places offering snacks. Lively venues include The Pub Irlandaise, Le Bar Bush, and Le Black Bear, all of which are within close reach of Les Gets’ only nightclub L’Igloo, whilst Le Tourbillon, Le Tyrol, Le Vieux Chene and La Tanniere are all very popular for their good food.
