Climate:
Geography: Lot-et-Garonne is part of the current region of Aquitaine. The surrounding departments are Lot, Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, Landes, Gironde, and Dordogne. There are a lot of opportunities for canoeing and boating on the rivers Lot, Tarn, Aveyron and on the Canal du Midi. This region is spread over the departments of Lot and Garonne and part of Gascony. Throughout the whole area there are bastides, fortified towns, châteaux and “villages perchés”. There are also positioned the famous Cahors vineyards that stretches from Cahors to Mauroux. You can also visit the annual vine fair in Prayssac at the beginning of August. This region is very rich and fertile and is one of the main fruit production areas in France. It is also famous for being the largest orchard in France. It is well renowned for the Pruneaux d’Agen which production dates back to the 15 th century. There also a lot of wines in this area. Some famous brands are Duras and Buzet . You can find here many fresh fruits and vegetables and of course foie gras. The landscapes of the region are also very diverse. Here you can find a lot of local products, historical heritage and naviguable waterways. This is the ideal place to spend your holiday. Lot-et-Garonne is an agricultural area that is famous for its gastronomy and fruit variety that can be found on the local markets.
Towns: There you can find a lot of orchards and plums that produce around 35,000 tones of the world famous pruneaux d’Agen each year. The town is modern but is not very attractive and is positioned on the river Garonne. Its mild climate makes the visit to it at every time of the year very pleasant. In Rue Beauville you can find some attractive medieval houses that are close to the Rue Richard Coeur de Lion . You can cross the river Garonne by the footbridge and go to the gardens of Le Gravier. There is a twice weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday but the one on Saturday is better.
History:
Gastronomy: The local menus usually start with foie gras and after that magret de canard. Duck is important part of this cuisine. It is also very famous stuffed duck, goose neck, breast being served with rich wine sauce. Also, do not forget the famous Agen’s prunes.
Wine: One of the most famous wines in the area are the Côtes de Duras, Marmandais, Brulhois andwines of Buzet.
