Gace Property guide
Gacé is a town in the Orne department which is in the Normandy region of France. Being on the tip of Northern France, this area is a good tourist destination for many Brits’. Historically, the town of Gacé was occupied by the English during the Hundred Years’ War and was finally ceded back to France in 1449, just before the end of the war in 1453.
Access
Gacé is within driving distance of 3 major ferry ports; Caen (1hr 20mins), Le Havre (1hr 30mins) and Dieppe (1hr 50mins). Paris is 2 hours drive away and from there one can take the Eurostar through to London.
Monuments
Gacé possesses a range of chateaux and manor estates’, some which can be visited others are not open to the public, but very pleasant to view from the outside. Examples include; Chateau de Mardilly, Chateau de Cisai and Chateau de Courménil.
The Chateau de Gacé is a wonderful place to visit and whilst showing the grandeur of ages’ past, it also houses the Musée de la Dame aux Camélias. This museum is dedicated to amongst other things Marie Duplessis, a writer who lived during the 19th century but who has often been forgotten due to the fact that she was unfortunately living during the time of the great writer, Alexandre Dumas.
Gastronomy
Normandy is commonly known as a dairy producing region. It is famed primarily for its butter, cream and cheeses which include Camembert, Livarot and Pont L’Eveque.
