The towns of Grandcamp and Maisy came together in 1992 to form the commune of Grandcamp-Maisy. The commune is in the Calvados department of the Normandy region. It is in fact in between the D-Day landing sites’ of “Utah” and “Omaha” beaches’.

Access
Being positioned where it is on the north coast of France, Grandcamp-Maisy is no more than 2 hours drive from the ferry ports of Cherbourg (closest), Le Havre and Saint Malo. All of these ports’ have ferries which run between France and the UK on a daily basis throughout the year.


Monuments
In Grandcamp-Maisy there are many churches to admire including the churches of Saint Malo de Létanville; Notre-Dame de Grandcamp and Saint Germain de Maisy. The commune is also known for its extensive number of windmills such as the Moulin de Varennes and the Moulin de la Martinière.
There is also the Musée des Rangers, which is a museum commemorating the events of the 6th June 1944 as well as the American soldiers who lost their lives’ during the D-Day landings. Added to this, there is an American military cemetery.  


Events
Popular events that take place annually in Grandcamp-Maisy are the Regatta weekend which takes place every August, fireworks which take place on the eve of Bastille Day and the Fete de la Coquille in the first week of December which celebrates fishing in the Seine Bay.


Sports
Sailing is very popular in Grandcamp-Maisy and there is even a sailing school there promoting others to take up the sport. Football, tennis and of course a variety of beach-related games are also popular.


Gastronomy
Cuisine is focused on fish and other seafood. A typical dish for Grandcamp-Maisy is mackerel cooked in cider, onions and parsley. Fish such as turbot and sole is also favoured. Meats such as beef and lamb and cheeses also represent a key part of the diet. Additionally, there is the crème d’Isigny, a thick, voluptuous cream. Calvados is the aperitif of choice here, owing to Grandcamp-Maisy’s position within the Calvados department.
