Auxi le Château is situated 18 km from Hesdin or Doullens, 26 km from Saint-Pol sur Ternoise or Abbeville, 45 km from Arras or Amiens, 100 km from Lille and 200 km from Paris. The department roads 119, 933, 938 and 941 provide access to the village.

Sharpened flints have been discovered in the plateau de Lannoy and prove humans were living there 300 000 years ago. In 1178, Philippe d’Alsace has the village’s castle built. The castle of Auxi le Chateau resisted many attacks but was to be ruined in 1637 during the 30 years war. Today, only a wall remains. Around 1580, le Baillage (current city hall) is being constructed and will be refurbished in its current style in 1860.

Beer, the traditional drink of Nord Pas de Calais, is also used for cooking. Carbonade Flamande is a meal with braised beef and a sauce with beer, spices and onions. The Welsh Rarebit is an English dish adopted by the Pas de Calais; it is a grilled toast with melted Cheddar, sometimes with eggs and bacon as well.
