The development:

The location:
The residence is in La Foret Blanche, at the heart of the Vars region, a distinctive mountain setting, replete with tradition and history, and importantly, 300 sunny days a year. Vars is in fact made up of four villages (Saint-Marcellin, Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Catherine and Les Claux) each with their own distinctive history and atmosphere, but all offering a sumptuous ski experience. A range of shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars are available to suit everyone’s tastes. The Vars area combined with neighbouring Risoul encompasses La Foret Blanche, a giant ski area offering 185 km of skiable domain, with 108 pistes and 50 ski lifts. There are plenty of runs for beginners with gentle slopes, ample intermediate ones and also more challenging runs (11 black runs) and a good amount of off-piste.

Activities:
In winter hit the slopes for alpine skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledging, dog sledding , the snow park and snow mobiles. In summer try horse riding, trekking, mountain biking, tennis, archery, volley ball, paragliding and rock climbing.

Local food and gastronomy:
The gratin dauphinois (thinly sliced potatoes cooked with cream and garlic) is a popular dish of the area, as are tourtons (a fried doughnut with potato and leeks), raviolis, the petit Bayard (blue cheese), and Oreilles d’anes- a sort of lasagne with a cep and spinach stuffing. To drink it has to be the Genepi, a liqueur flavoured with an aromatic mountain herb.

By train: The nearest train station is Montdauphin Guillestre (18 km away), there are also direct trains linking Paris and Briancon, and the TGV from Paris to Grenoble. There are daily trains between Marseille and Briancon too.
By plane: Cunéo-Levaldigi Airport is 1 hour 30 minutes away (flights to London), Turin Airport is 2 hours away (flights to London, Dublin and other European destinations), Grenoble Airport is 3 hours away (flights to London, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin and other European destinations).
