Corlay

Corlay is a pretty chateau town that is well positioned for many of the good things that Brittany has to offer. Small lakes and the ruins of the 15th century chateau are sights to see and in the summer there are a number of festivals, including the national day celebrations on 13th July with fireworks, barbecues, local music, and dancing.

Access

Corlay is ideally located in the Côtes d’Armor department, close to the wonderful coastlines in the north and south of Brittany , with the closest beach only 35 mins away. Dinard airport can be reached in 70 mins, Rennes airport in 80 mins, Brest airport in 90 min and St Malo ferry port in 75 mins.

Activities

La Fontaine Saint Alain is impressive, there are some old C16th wash houses that are actually still used by some, St Sauveur church is a C15th treasure located in the main square, there are several sporting facilities, including tennis courts, a horse museum and a hippodrome which holds national race meets.

Within easy reach of Corlay, you’ll find the Site du Bon Repos, a partly-renovated C12th abbey situated on the banks of Nantes-Brest Canal, Lake Guerledan which is an important tourist attraction with its sailing, fishing, beach resorts (Beau Rivage and Anse de Sordan) and water sports on a lake that expands12km and an 8,000 acre forest called Quénécan. Swimming in the heated open air swimming pool at St Nicholas du Pelem is also popular, with its cascades, water slides and massage points. And day trips to St Malo, Quimper and Cancale are interesting.

Food & Drink

Buckwheat pancakes must be tried when in Loudeac, accompanied by cider in a ‘bolée’ (a small handleless cup). Seafood and charcuterie (meat) are also very tasty; the ‘fruits de mer’ platter for example, available in most restaurants, boasts: oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, lobster and prawns. Cider is the main drink because Brittany is one of its main producers; there are orchards everywhere.

Restaurants

  • La Forge creperie
  • Le Pelinec nestles on the banks of a small lake. You can work off your meal with an enjoyable walk along the lake or hire a pedalo.
