Access

Beziers is located above the river Orb about 10km from the Mediterraean sea and its sandy beaches and close to the ski mountains. Montpellier airport can be reached in 50mins and Carcassonne and Perpignan airports in 1h.

History
The site has been occupied since Neolithic times before the Celts. The romans refounded the city and called it Colonia Julia Baeterrae Septimanorum. Beziers was a Languedoc stronghold of Catharism, which the Catholic Church condemned as heretical and which Catholic forces extirpated in the Albigensian Crusade. Béziers was the first city to be sacked, on July 22, 1209.

Activities
Local activities include sea jousting, golf at St-Thomas and bullfighting tournaments in the modern arena. Every Friday there is a flower market and every August there is a 5-day festival. Shops and schools are well catered for and the local rugby team is very popular (AS Beziers).

Food
Beziers is famous for its seafood platers coming from the Mediterraean sea. You can find delicious sunday codfish and thick fish soup.
